Swedish Body Massage

Massage has existed in one form or another since early civilisation. The word massage is generally believed to derive from the Arabic ‘mass’ which means to press softly. The physical and psychological benefits of massage have been recognised for thousands of years. Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissues and muscles of the body for therapeutic purposes. The sense of touch is one of the first senses to be developed and is essential to our growth as human beings from the very young to the older generation.

In its various forms, massage can be used to stimulate or relax the mind and body. It can be used to promote general well being and enhance self esteem; while boosting the circulatory and immune system to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, respiration, digestion and skin tone.

Tui Na (Chinese Bodywork Massage Therapy)

Tui na is an oriental bodywork therapy that has been used in China for 2,000 years. Tui na uses the traditional Chinese medical theory of the flow of energy (Qi) through the meridians as its basic therapeutic orientation. Through the application of massage techniques Tui na seeks to establish a more harmonious flow of energy through the body’s system of channels using an holistic approach helps the body heal itself naturally.

Tui na methods include the use of hand techniques to massage the soft tissue (muscles and tendons) of the body, acupressure techniques to directly affect the flow of energy. Tui na can also form a good adjunct to Swedish body massage enabling the therapist to concentrate on the clients problem areas.

Tui na is suitable for the treatment of muscular and soft tissue problems and joint manipulation, chronic stress related disorders related to digestion, respiratory and reproductive systems. It is also used to protect health and build up body immunity, improving circulation, the appearance of the skin, improves muscle tone and helps to bring balance to the mind and body.
